FORWARD LOOKING STRATEGIES FOR THE WLHRI

The Ark Foundation, Ghana, is poised to transform the WLHRI Program into a full-fledged capacity building institute running training programs on full time basis particularly for women, and advocates, development workers, trainers, etc.

Focus of capacity building will be primarily women’s leadership (conceptual knowledge and transfer of skills), but training will be designed to cover issues on social development, legislative and policy processes, governance and democratic participation, human rights, legal rights, public interest action, gender and development, child rights and law; and advocacy on disability rights.

A resource and documentation centre will be established under this program to make available research material, information technology and books for persons interested in researching or working on women and related social development, human rights and political processes.

While funding will be sought for the establishment of the expanded program under the WLHRI from development partners and the donor community, for purposes of sustainability it is envisaged that the WLHRI will also run fees - for - services programs in the provision of training and consulting for other organizations and agencies.

The Ark therefore seeks strategic partners who are interested in contributing meaningfully to the advancement of women’s human rights, gender equality, leadership and social justice in the African Sub-Saharan region to partner with us to consolidate the WLHRI and strengthen its work for better impact.

International Development organizations, International and National Non-Governmental Agencies, Academic Institutions as well as philanthropists who believe and share in our cause are invited to contact us and join with us to make this vision a reality.

What will it look like?

Warm, vibrant, friendly, and interesting. A place where women learn to become activists; where the generations meet; where sisters dialogue.

A space to take off your shoes, relax and lie down to read, or join a vigorous, interactive session on globalization’s impact on women just next door, online or with real people.

A place where information is a button away and women can bring their babies while working on complicated human rights advocacy strategies… also a place where men will not feel intimidated, only challenged…
