Hello everyone! I am Bill, a visiting professor at Tsukuba Univ., College
of International Studies teaching U.S./ Japan Comparative Law (also teach
part-time at Chuo U. Faculty of Public Policy). I am a lawyer too, but
please don't hold that against me. I have practiced commercial law in New
York and Guam and have worked with several Japanese construction ompanies
and banks. I have a Ph.D. in Japanese public law from Hokkaido University
(1990). I have written a few articles on Japanese criminal procedure, a
chapter on Takako Doi, and have translated an article on AIDS in American
prisons from English to Japanese, and have translated from Japanese to
English articles on such topics as the Japanese Constitution, euthanasia,
and the tape recording of police interrogations in England.=20

I am Lyckle Griek, a Dutch graduate student in the Department of Education
(Comparative Education) at Hiroshima University since 1993. I am currently
working on my thesis "International Awareness Education in Japan: Attitudes
and knowledge of students at compulsory education level" Which deals with
the way how Japanese children view the world around them and to what extent
they feel part of international society. Although currently into
researching education, my interests cover a much wider range of topics
concerning Japan (in particular postwar-Japanese politics). I'm looking
forward to join you in discussions on H-Japan
