Two member introductions

Hello,
As a new member of the H-Japan list I would like to introduce myself. My
name is Mickey Adolphson, and I am currently an assistant professor of
Japanese history at the University of Oklahoma. I completed my
dissertation, entitled "Monks, Courtiers and Warriors in Premodern Japan:
The Secular Power of Enryakuji in the Heian and Kamakura Eras," last year
at Stanford. I am very much interested in the ruling structures and the
social configurations of premodern (in my mind pre-1600) Japan, but I focus
especially on the role of religious institutions, since they have been
largely neglected as political forces until very recently. In fact, I
believe more attention should be devoted "politico-religious" issues in all
of Japanese history. Maybe this forum can do something about that?

From: John C. Campbell

I am John Campbell speaking as Secretary-Treasurer of the Association
of Asian Studies, or John Creighton Campbell as Prof. of Political
Science at the University of Michigan. My research recently has centered
on social policy in Japan, currently the health-care system.
This is certainly a good forum for discussing organizational as well as
academic matters in Japanese studies. Suggestions for the AAS are most
welcome.
