Midwest Conference on East Asian History and Culture

co-sponsored by the University of Iowa

May 10-12, 1996

The Midwest Conference on East Asian History and Culture is a conference
organized by graduate students in the history departments at The Ohio State
University and the University of Iowa. Graduate Students in any discipline
are invited to submit papers on any time period and a wide range of fields
including history, politics, literature, social change, gender,
international relations, intellectual history, science and technology, and
culture, broadly defined. The main focus of the conference will be China and
Japan, but papers concerning Korea and Southeast Asia are also welcome.

Papers should be of twenty-minute delivery length (approximately ten pages,
double spaced). Complete panel proposals are welcome, but not required.

The conference will feature a keynote address by Professor Stephen Vlastos
(Modern Japanese History) of the University of Iowa.

Submit one-page proposals by March 15, 1996. Completed papers must be
submitted no later than April 20, 1996.
