On transmission of Nihongo (I use this word for Japanese written in
Japanese character) through e-mail Prof. Fukaya posted his question
regarding the transmission of Nihongo paper which is not for the public
through the net. My experiences tell that the ability of receiving
Nihongo in the U.S. depends on the local system. I have successfully
communicated in Nihongo with Japanese studies librarians in the U.S. and
Australia through e-mail. One of them told me he got software
(Twinbridge?) from Japanese language department of his university. So if
the person you are addressing is capable to receive messages in Nihongo,
you don't have to depend on the net and can send messages directly. And
if the local system is not capable to handle Nihongo, one cannot read
Nihongo delivered by the network anyway, I suppose.
