in Studies of African Visual Culture

Chair: Barbara Thompson, Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College

Through rapid advances made in information technology, the collection and dissemination of information on African artists and visual culture via the Internet have become increasingly popular in educational institutions, museums, archives and galleries. This round table will look "critically" at the interface between information technology and the study, documentation, interpretation and presentation of African visual culture. Roundtable participants will discuss and share their practical knowledge and ideas about innovative applications of information technology in teaching, research and the marketing of African artists and African visual culture; the advances and set backs of new software and hardware; and revisions of interpretive and dissemination methods made possible by new and improved technology.

Participant Presentations:
*Christopher D. Roy, University of Iowa
*Michael W. Conner, University of Illinois
*Ray Silverman, University of Michigan
