Is anyone aware of the whereabouts or ultimate fate of
the diaries of John Thadeus Delane (editor of "The Times"
1841-1884)? Arthur Dasent used them in his biography of Delane
of 1908, but they seem to have disappeared since. Eamonn Dyas
at the Times Archives told me that he thinks they were probably
destroyed in the Second World War, but he wasn't certain. I'm
writing an article on the Times and the Irish Question 1845-52
and would be interested to know what happened to this
tantalizing source.
