Is there any relatively straightforward way to identify whether or not
someone was a royal chaplain in early seventeenth century England? I am
seeking to check whether Malcolm Hamilton, Archbishop of Cashel, in
Ireland, 1623-9 was indeed, as he claimed in 1627, a former chaplain to
Charles I. (In this case, of course, the search would be complicated by
the distinct possibility that he was chaplain to Charles before he became
king, but I am still interested in the general question of lists of royal
chaplains.)
