I don't know that there has been a modern biography of Lord Roberts, but
R.J.Q. Adams has a brief sketch in Thompson & Mejia, _Edwardian
Conservatism: Studies in Adaptation_ (London: Croom Helm, 1988). See
the initial chapters his _The Conscription Controversy and British Politics,
1900-1915_ for a longer discussion of Roberts and the National Service League,
if that is
the part of Roberts' life you are interested in.
