10) Position: Modern European History
Institution: University of Auckland
Location: New Zealand

Applicants should hold a doctorate and have experience in teaching in a
university or similar institution. The Department wishes to appoint an
expert on the history of continental Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries. Specialism in French and/or German history would be an
advantage.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels and to undertake research.

Commencing salary will be determined in accordance with qualificatiions and
experience within the scales for Lecturers and Senior Lecturers. All
candidates are asked to state which level they seek appointment. In
particular, those who do not wish to be considered for a Lectureship are
asked to clearly state this in their application. The present salary scale
for a Lecturer is $NZ42,500 per annum rising to $NZ51,500 per annum by six
annual increments. The present salary scale for a Senior Lecturer is
$NZ54,750 per annum rising to $NZ63,500 per annum by four annual
increments, then to $NZ69,500 by a further three.

The successful applicant should be able to take up duties on dates to be
arranged as soon as possible before June 1996.

12) Position: Modern Europe

MODERN EUROPE. Pomona College seeks candidates for a tenure-
track, permanent position as assistant professor of history in
19th or 20th century continental European history.. All
specialities and foci welcome, including those on the minority or
imperial experience of Europe. Responsibilities involve
introductory and advanced courses (including the survey of Modern
Europe) and senior thesis advising. Candidates should show a
strong interest in contributing to and working with other college
academic programs (eg. ethnic studies, international relations,

13) Position: Medieval History

MEDIEVAL EUROPEAN HISTORY. Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.
Tenure-track entry-level assistant professor of medieval history, starting
late August 1996. Ph.D. required at time job commences. Salary in
mid-thirties. Candidate will typically teach three courses per semester.
These will include one or more of Villanova's interdisciplinary
core humanities seminars to 1650, a one-semester survey of medieval
history, and undergraduate or master's-level electives in medieval
history. Main field/rsearch speciality: High Middle Ages,
continental Europe. Desirable secondary field: Renaissance/Reformation
or early modern Europe. The department seeks candidates with potential

41) Position: Fellowship
Institution: Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies
Location: Australia

Applications are invited for an appointment in international relations
from candidates with expertise in the international relations or
international political economy of Northeast or Southeast Asia.

In the case of an appointment at Research Fellow level, the Department
will also consider applications from scholars with interests in
international relations theory (including gender issues) who have actual or
prospective research projects on Northeast or Southeast Asia.

This is primarily a research position; however, the successful applicant
will teach a one-semester seminar each year in the Department's Master of
Arts in International Relations program and will be expected to supervise
Masters and PhD students.

The appointee will have a PhD in Political Science or equivalent, and a
strong publication record.

The Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, which has 115 full-
time researchers, is one of the world's leading research centres on the
Asia-Pacific region. The Department of International Relations is one of
four political science units within the School. It works closely with the
other units: the Department of Political and Social Change; the Peace
Research Centre; and the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre.
