Hello, everyone,
In my new capacity as review editor for Contemporary Record, which is
the journal of the Institute of Contemporary British History, I have
been building up a database of publishers who support work on the
subject. I now have 100 entries, 98 of whom are based in the British
Isles, but was hoping that some of you might be kind enough to tell
me which publishers overseas produce British history books too. I'm
not just talking about English-language text, by the way; we have
scholars who can review French, Italian, German and Spanish language
texts too.
In the short term, I am hoping to encourage more reviews of overseas-
produced texts as a means of broadening the perspective on British
history; in the medium term, I should like to commission an article
comparing the use of British history in schools in Japan (apparently
highly favourable), France (apparently not) and one other country; in
the long term, I'll try to get the database and such reviews lodged
in the Institute's soon-to-be-created web site. So any help would be
gratefully received.
Just in case you didn't know, the Institute is moving on 9 October -
it's new address will be:
Senate House,
Malet Street,
London,
WC1E.
Tel: +171 436 2478
Fax: +171 436 2480
When I get a new email address there I will post another note. In the
meantime, thanks for your attention.
Sean McDougall.
