I would very appreciate input from members of the list on the question of
advicing students on efficacy of pursuing the doctorate at the present time.
Every year I have several students who ask me for advice regarding pursuing
graduate work. My main concern is that I really do not know what to tell
them what their prospects are of getting a job. I have read all sorts of
seemingly contradictory material on this subject. What do you tell your
students?
