Any consideration of 17th-century irish slavery should not omit irish
slaves in North Africa --- was there not a notorious raid on Baltimore
(Ireland) in the 1620s or 1630s in which a large proportion of the
town's population was carried off? For Britain there is David Hebb's
thesis, and Todd Gray has produced a succession of articles on 'Turkish'
piracy and SW England, but I don't know what has been done specifically
on Ireland.
