I would only add to the excellent advice of your respondents that in America
examiners often feel that it is necessary to query the student's
understanding of British civilization in general. Hence, I remember during
my comprehensives being asked to explain how a bill proceeds through
Parliament, what is High Church, and other such questions. A professor of
British history obviously should understand these basic features of Britain.
