New Midisoft "Braveheart" CD-ROM explores medieval times and making of
an epic film with Mel Gibson
ISSAQUAH, Wash.--Aug. 29, 1995--Midisoft captures the spirit of the
Middle Ages and the historical flavor of medieval Scotland in its
soon-to-be-released "Braveheart" CD-ROM. The "Braveheart" CD-ROM
title was produced in cooperation with Viacom Consumer Products,
Paramount Pictures and Icon Productions, and based on the hit movie,
which will be re-released nationwide on Sept. 15. The highly
entertaining and educational multimedia software offers a full
exploration of the creative film-making process complete with
interviews with Mel Gibson and cast members, and a first-hand look
at the life and death struggle for power and independence in 13th-
century Scotland. The title also includes in-depth coverage of
medieval times through a complete historical archive. Developed for
Windows and compatible with Windows 95, the software is targeted to
ship during the fall of 1995 and has a suggested retail price of
$49.95.
Unlike other CD-ROM titles designed around a movie's storyline,
Midisoft's "Braveheart" delves deep into the mystique surrounding
the medieval period. The CD-ROM includes a comprehensive study of
the 13th century with renditions of illuminated manuscripts from
museums worldwide, renderings of ancient Scottish castles and actual
scenes from the movie depicting how weapons and armor were used
during the battle. The CD-ROM also includes a wealth of original
footage not seen in the movie. The "Braveheart" story, as produced
and directed by Gibson, is based on the life of William Wallace, a
13th-century Scottish patriot who led an uprising against Edward I,
King of England. Wallace became the leader of a courageous army,
determined to fight for freedom against the greater English forces
who claimed the Scottish throne as their own after the Scottish king
died without an heir. Wallace's courage and passion united his
people in their efforts. "With the cooperation of our partners in
the movie industry and incredible medieval archive resources to draw
upon, this title provides a unique perspective to the William
Wallace story," said Raymond Bily, chairman and chief executive
officer of Midisoft. "We've developed a title rich with content that
will appeal to film enthusiasts, history buffs and Mel Gibson fans."
