5) Position: Early Modern Europe
Institution: University of Washington
Early Modern Europe. The Department of History at the University
of Washington invites applications for a position in early modern European
history, with a preferred additional interest in comparative European
expansion. The appointment, subject to availability of funding, will be
at the level of tenure-track assistant professor, beginning September,
1996. Applicants should have the Ph.D. degree and be highly qualified for
undergraduate and graduate teaching and independent research, as well as
interdisciplinary work in the University's program in Western European
studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in
the early modern world, broadly conceived, as well as courses within areas
of scholarly specialization. Applications, including c.v., a statement of
research and teaching interests, and three letters of recommendation,
should be sent to Professor George Behlmer, Department of History, Box
353560, University of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195. Priority will be
given to applications received before November 15, 1995. The University
