The American Branch of the Richard III Society is pleased to announce the
availability of one or more William B. Schallek Memorial Graduate Fellowship
Awards for the 1996-1997 academic year.
The awards, usually in the amount of $500 or $1,000, are made to graduate
students who are enrolled in a recognized institution of higher learning,
making normal progress toward a gradaute degree, and whose field of study
relates most closely to Yorkist-era English history and culture. Preference
is typically given to Ph.D. candidates engaged in researching their
dissertations. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have applied for first
citizenship papers. Judging is by a panel including Lorraine C. Attreed, Holy
Cross, Barbara A. Hanawalt, University of Minnesota, Morris G. McGee,
Montclair (NJ) State University, Emeritus, Shelley A. Sinclair, Southern Utah
University, and Charles T. Wood, Dartmouth.
Deadline for applications: February 28. Winners announced June 1. Additional
information, including a list of past recipients and their topics and a
downloadable application form, can be found on the Society's World Wide Web
site:
http://www.webcom.com/~blanchrd/gateway.html (and follow the link to
graduate scholarships in the American Branch section).
I hope you will share this posting with appropriate colleagues and students.
Applicants without Web access may e-mail me with their U.S. Mail address and
I will send appropriate materials.

Laura Blanchard
