I have been told, and now read in Wired magazine, that 19th-century
carpenters replacing the aged beams of the College Hall, New College, Oxford,
harvested oak trees planted in 1386 for the purpose, when the hall was first
built.

1. Can anyone provide more details and/or cite an authoritative source for
this story?
2. Can anyone cite other such instances of planning for and use of renewable
resources in what may be construed as an urban setting?

Thanks.
