Elizabeth,

I would recommend either The Sorceress (French w/ English subtitles)
or The Disputation: A Theological Debate Between Christians and Jews.
The former was a commercial release and available at local video
stores. It depicts a 13c. incident (based on the inquisitor
Etienne de Bourbon's account) in a French village which venerated a
greyhound as a saint. While a bit biased towards the villagers, it is
a good film. If you are relatively unversed in medieval heresy, I'd
look at Jeffrey B. Russell's _Dissent and Order in the Middle Ages:
The Search for Legitimate Authority_ (MacMillan, 1992), which is
short but good and will provide a useful context for this film and
the other that I've recommended. The Disputation is available from
Films for the Humanities & Sciences (800-257-5126), and the
quality is equal to commercial films. It centers on the 1263 public
theological debate between representatives of the Jews and Christians
in Barcelona. It nicely looks at the issues of Jewish-Christian
relations in medieval Spain, and the context for the growing anti-
semitism of the 13th and 14th centuries.

I've used both in my classes and the students found them interesting
and thought provoking.
