Help! I've just been given the responsibility for overseeing a
senior honors thesis while the student's advisor is on leave. The
topic is "Kinship and Irish Monasticism." The student writes that
"The Irish tradition of kinship and clan which formed the basis of
all social and legal interaction, absorbed monasticism and molded
it into an institution which was better suited to the spiritual,
economic, and political climate of Irish society (during the 5th
and 6th centuries) than the Roman episcopal structure." My primary
field is Tudor-Stuart religious history, so I'm a bit adrift on
this one. Suggestions of bibliography and historiography will be
appreciated and will be passed on to the student.
Thanks,
J. Helt
