Deportation of Sheep Stealers to Australia

Anyone have any info on the (presumed) practice of the Irish during or after
the famine of deporting sheep stealers to Australia? And of the movement of
the deportees from Australia to the US?

Any references, citations or family anecdotes will be deeply appreciated.
