THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND RECORD SOCIETY
Patron: Lord Runcie; President: Professor Patrick Collinson; Series
Editor: Dr. S.J.C. Taylor

The Church of England Record Society was founded in 1991 with the object of
promoting interest in and knowledge of the history of the Church of England
from the sixteenth century onwards. The Society aims to do this by
publishing primary material of significance for the history of the Church
of England, whether in the form of letters, diaries, specula, visitation
articles or other documents. Since the intention is to publishmaterial of
national, as distinct from purely local interst, the Society is not in
competition with local or county record societies.

The Society aims to produce one volume each year, published by the Boydell
Press, and an ambitious publishing programme is underway. The first volume
int he seies, which is now available for all those who subscribed in 1993
is _Visitation Articles and Instructions of the Early Stuart Church_, part
1, edited by Dr. Kenneth Fincham. Volume 2 set aside for the 1994
subscription is Dr. Jeremy Gregory, _The Speculum of Archbishop Thomas
Secker: The Diocese of Canterbury 1758-1768_. This will be published in
November and will be sent to subscribers together with the current year's
volume (vol. 3), _The Early Letters of Richard Hurd, 1739-1762_, edited by
Dr. Sarah Brewer.

In addition to its publishing program, the Society holds an annual general
meeting, followed by an address by the editor of a forthcoming edition.
