Some 20 to 25 years ago, I looked up some references in the British Library,
for a friend and colleague, in a journal or newsletter that was
published in mid-Victorian England by a (women's, I believe)
organization that was concerned with combatting venereal diseases and
also, consequently, prosititution. I am pretty sure that the
organization's title included the word "hygiene" or else "hygenic."
You might want to track it down. As I recall it was very fond of
publishing statisticsof the sort you are interested in, especially with
regard to military bases and naval dockyards.
