Lynn Nelson's comment on the business infrastructure as the key to the
status of national composers:

I'm sure there's something in that, but it would seem to me that if any
national group knew how to handle the business end of music it was
English musicians. This was much commented upon by Continental
musicians, even Mendelssohn remarked on it. Ann
