I am working on a piece about mid-19th century military camps in England, and
I need to find out what research is available concerning economies of vice.
Basically, I am looking for the who, what, when, where, and why of mid-
century prostitution, alcohol use and abuse, drugs (where applicable),
pornography, etc. Because I am interested in soldiers, I would like to know
about sources pertaining to the lower classes. I would also like to discover
whatever is available about locations not in the Metropolis, although that
information would be of some help too. I've already run across what are now
becoming classic texts like Walkowitz, Vicinus, McHugh, but I know there must
be some newer research out there.
