Yes, you're quite right 'T'. That was sloppy on my part. London was the
centre only in that it had the largest musical market. In that
sense it was a Mecca for most performers, composers and conductors. The
point I was trying to make that it is curious that with all this
activity, English music as a creative force could still not be enticed
out of its churchy provincialism. Ann.
