to co-operate with the existing lecturer in American Studies to develop the
Interdepartmental American Studies Programme in the Faculty. The successful

LECTURESHIPS IN HISTORY

Permanent and Temporary

The History department expects to appoint up to five
lectureships from October 1995 (or earlier). One, a
Lecturer A or B post (salary range in UK pounds sterling
from 14,756 to 25,735) should be a permanent appointment;
another, up to point 10 in the Lecturer A scale (salary
range in UK pounds sterling from 14,756 to 18,035), will
probably be a 3-year appointment, and the others (two of
which may be up to point 10 on the Lecturer A scale) will
be temporary posts of up to one year. The secondments
of current staff members to other duties help to make these
opportunities possible.

Candidates are sought for the permanent and 3-year posts
in the areas of Modern European History, Women's History,
and Medieval History. Apart from these areas, the temporary
posts may be in Modern French History and in areas in which
the department currently provides heavily-subscribed courses,
as in ancient, modern British, Russian, American, and popular
cultural history. An ability to offer expertise in more
than one area will be an advantage.

The History department is one of the largest in the United
Kingdom, with a large graduate school, has a 4A research
rating and has been classified as Excellent in the Quality
Assessment of teaching. Candidates should be well-qualified
scholars, with good research records.

10) Position: American Econ. History

The Seminar for Economic History of the University of Munich (Professor
John Komlos, chair) is very interested in hosting a Fulbright scholar for
one or two semesters during the 1996-1997 academic year. The visitor
would offer a course on American economic development while here.
Opportunities for pursuing her/his own research during the stay are also
excellent. A variety of archival and other resources is available in
Munich, and the Seminar for Economic History is an active research group
which brings in numerous outside speakers and maintains contacts with
other German universities. (Munich is a very nice place to live, too.)
Knowledge of German is not necessary.

The application would have to go through the normal Fulbright channels,
but Professor Komlos believes a qualified applicant would have a very
good chance of being accepted.

12) Position: CURATOR OF MANUSCRIPTS
Institution: Western Reserve Historical Society

The Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS), Cleveland, Ohio.

A major focus of the WRHS Library is its manuscript collections
with current emphasis on regional African-American, ethnic,
lesbian/gay, Jewish, labor, local government, and urban archives.
The Curator of Manuscripts heads one of the Library's four
divisions and is responsible for collection maintenance and
expansion, supervision of associate and assistant curators and
archivists, and budget preparation and implementation. The curator
maintains associations with archival and historical organizations,
prepares special project grant requests, and lectures in both
academic and non-academic settings. The qualified applicant will
have at least five (5) years of experience in an archival setting
with administrative and supervisory responsibilities, strong communi-
cation and organizational skills, demonstrated ability to handle
multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines, be experienced with
computer systems and MARC-AMC. Education: Master's degree in
American History, library science, or archives, and formal training in

13) Position: Editor
Institution: Presbyterian Historical Society

Applications are invited for editor of AMERICAN PRESBYTERIANS: JOURNAL OF
PRESBYTERIAN HISTORY, the quarterly journal of the Presbyterian
Historical Society. The incumbent is one of two senior editors who
determines the journals' content. Specific duties include: soliciting
manuscripts; advising authors about topics and revisions; soliciting reviews;
and writing editorial features.

Requirements: graduate degree in American church history, preferably a
doctorate; 3 years experience in historical editing; knowledge of American
Presbyterian and Reformed history; publications in American Presbyterian
history; experience at a Presbyterian seminary or college an asset.

responsibility in June 1996. A small honorarium is provided. It is

15) Position: SENIOR ORAL HISTORIAN

The University of Nevada Oral History Program (UNOHP), one
of the oldest and finest in the country, is searching for a
senior oral historian. Candidates must hold a master's degree in
history, anthropology, English, journalism, or a related field.
The position carries administrative faculty rank, with a
competitive salary.

In addition to having built an excellent oral history
research collection, the UNOHP is a small publisher (3000 books
sold per annum), and it has its own video production unit.
Recent projects explored Washoe Indian history and culture, the
origins and development of the casino gaming industry, the
history of the state's largest African-American community, and
the lives and experiences of ranching families in the Great
Basin. Our senior oral historian will have an active role in
future projects equally diverse in their scope.

NYSERNet, Inc. is looking for a qualified person to join the staff of the
NYSERNet Internet Training and Education Center (NITEC) in the
position of Network Information Specialist. The successful candidate will
join the NITEC team in producing a broad range of Internet-related
training, for delivery in NITEC's state-of-the-art facility and at customer

surrounding the Internet. Excellent written and oral communication skills,

desktop operating systems and software, as well as UNIX and multi-
