I'd be interested in the answer to this, as well. In the absence of
electronic versions of maps already available, perhaps the best idea would be
to take the relevant maps from Martin Gilbert's *Atlas of British History*
(Oxford, 1968, 1993) or from the beautiful reproduction of Thomas Moule's *The
County Maps of Old England* (orig. published in 1830, facsimile by Studio
Editions, Ltd, London, 1990), which includes a map of Britain as a whole,
and have them scanned into GIF or JPG files. You can then manipulate them
with one of a number of available graphics programs.
