14) Position: Director of Women's Studies

Applications are invited for the position of Director of the Women's
Studies Program at The University of Akron. The program seeks a qualified
scholar with a strong record of teaching, research, and service. Rank is

The nine-month, tenure-track position is a joint appointment with a
department within the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate
must have a terminal degree and be tenurable according to the criteria of that
Arts and Sciences department. Preference will be given to those who show
evidence of scholarship and teaching in feminist theory and third-wave
feminisms. Ability to mentor is a plus.
Women's Studies responsibilities include administering and teaching in the
Women's Studies Program, which consists primarily of the undergraduate
interdisciplinary Women's Studies Certificate. The expected starting date is
August 1996, with a possible start date of January 1996. Salary range is
commensurate with qualifications and experience.

16) Position: COLLECTIONS MANAGER
Institution: Smithsonian Institute

The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American
Indian is seeking an individual to serve as Collections Manager in
New York. This person will be responsible for managing the
museum's collection, which totals about 1 million artifacts
focusing on the cultures of native peoples of the Western
Hemisphere. Among the artifacts are fine wood, horn and stone
carvings from the Northwest Coast of North America; kachina dance
masks and doll from the Southwest; archaeological objects from the
Caribbean; textiles from Peru and Mexico; basketry from the
Southwest; gold work from Colombia, Mexico and Peru; jade fromthe
Olmec and Maya peoples; Aztec mosaics; and painted hides and
garments from the North American Plains Indians. We are seeking an
experienced person in collection documentation, preservation,
conservation and shipping and receiving, as well as in current
museum registration, collection inventory and internal control
procedures. Candidates should have an awareness of current issues
of importance to the Native American community and traditional care
practices applied to the objects. The collection is scheduled to
begin relocation in 1997 to NMAI's Cultural Resource Center in
Suitland, Maryland.

This is a Federal position (GS 1016-12). Salary range is $$44,392

17) Position: Records Inventory Assistant
Location: Manhatten

FULL TIME AT A SALARY OF $10.00 PER HOUR , May, 1995 , with possible
continuation in July.

The Labor-Managment Documentation Center is seeking a reliable individual
to assist in an inventory of union records in the NYC area. Working with a
professional archivist, the inventory assistant would input inventory
information into a ibm portable computer and help with other duties
connected with the inventory. Some moving of boxes (weighing between 20-35
lbs) would be required but the inventory will mostly be done in office files.

The job would commence the WEEK OF MAY 8TH OR NO LATER THAN MAY 15 and be
full time for the balance of May with possible continuation in July .

Job Skills Required:
Reliability, accuracy in typing, willingness to lift boxes weighing 25-25 lbs.
