Lynn Hunt, et al recently came out with a new textbook, *The Challenge of the
West* that we just began using this semester in a Renaissance and Revolution
course. We used volume B, 1320-1787 and were able to get the chapter on the
French revolution (which apparently appears in volume C) from the publisher.
As the dating of volume B indicates, the organization of this series is
strictly chronological, which was a problem for our course as it was
thematically structured. However, I think Hunt et al do a good job of
integrating the non white-Western-male perspective. Unfortunately there is no
document reader to accompany it...we've been putting together our own. Hope
this helps. (BTW, the textbook is published by DC Heath and is as
"affordable" as any other)
