As I wrote to J. J. Kane, Levack denies the estimates which range from one to
nine million claimed by earlier scholars. He cites instead detailed scholarly
studies such as Larner, Schormann, Behringer, Monter and Klaits. He states
himself that the number of witch trials was under 110,000 (p. 24, 2nd ed.).
