I don't recall anyone answering a recent query concerning the
population of England around 1600, which is generally considered to
have been around four million. An authoritative source is E. A. Wrigley
and R. S. Schofield, THE POPULATION HISTORY OF ENGLAND, Harvard U. Press,
1982.
