for History of Information Processing at the University of
Minnesota, is seeking an Associate Director. The job requires
an M.A. in the History of Science or Technology or related
fields such as computer science, science and technology
studies, or electronics. A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in
research desirable. The associate director will share a major
responsibility for carrying out the programmatic activities of
the institute, including historical research, dissemination of
information pertaining to the field of information processing,
participating in related professional societies, and the
administration of the Charles Babbage Institute, including
budget preparation, research direction, and editing the CBI
``Newsletter''. Experience in electronic publication is
desirable. Administrative experience desirable. Familiarity
with DOS/OS2 based word-processing database, and spreadsheet
programs desirable. Demonstrated ability to respond to
subordinates and a varied clientele efficiently, effectively,

Applicants must have a thorough background in the history of

Scholars with interest and competence in contemporary issues

11) Position: Project Archivist
Institution: PRINCETON UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
Location: PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY

Position: Project Archivist, Librarian I or II, Association on
American Indian Affairs Processing Project

Available: September 15, 1995. This is an eighteen-month
temporary appointment funded by the National Endowment for the
Humanities.

Description: Under the supervision of an Assistant Archivist,
the project archivist will survey, appraise, preserve, arrange
and describe the papers of the Association on American Indian
Affairs (AAIA) and four related collections held at the Seeley G.
Mudd Manuscript Library, Princeton University. The candidate
selected will also be responsible for supervision of one half-
time assistant and two student assistants (each working
approximately ten hours per week). The project archivist will
produce a finding aid based upon local practice as described in
Princeton's processing manual and assist in preparing records for
entry into various bibliographic utilities on campus, including
the NOTIS OPAC, RLIN, and MASC (Mansucripts, Archives and Special
Collections), a local database. The project archivist will also
work with current AAIA staff to establish a records management
program and provide for the orderly and efficient transfer of
AAIA records to Princeton.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or MA
in history or other relevant discipline. Graduate training or
experience in archival and records management theory and
practice. Post-degree experience processing large collections
highly desired. Knowledge of 20th-century Native American
history an important asset. Familiarity with MARC AMC format,
library automation, and microcomputer applications. Demonstrated
ability to appraise historical records and work independently.
Supervisory experience desirable. Excellent communication
skills. Ability to lift 40 lb.box.

Benefits: Twenty-four vacation days a year, plus eleven (11)
paid holidays. Annuity program (TIAA/CREF), group life insurance,
health coverage insurance, and disability insurance, all paid for
by the University.

Salary and Rank: Salary dependent upon qualifications and
experience. The minimum salary for the rank of Librarian I is
$30,200 and Librarian II is $33,300.
