You might try a recent one by R. Quinault and P. O'Brien, titled I think,
Britain in the Industrial Revolution. It's not one synthesis, but several,
each on a different aspect of industrialization (Crime during, Sexuality
in, Economic contours of, and so on). No prior knowledge would be needed,
and it breaks up nicely.
