I am editing an Encyclopedia of Historians and Historical Writing
for publication in early 1997. I would very much appreciate it
if you could distribute this notice to members of your list.

The ENCYLOPEDIA OF HISTORIANS AND HISTORICAL WRITING will include
some 600 entries surveying the writing of history from ancient
times to the the present day around the globe. Historians and
Historical Writing will be a reference work of about 900
double-column pages and will contain entries on various subjects
including individual historians, thematic surveys, and
approaches. In addition to the European and North American
historical traditions it will cover the historiography of Africa,
Asia and Latin America. The articles on individuals will
generally be 600-1000 words long; the topic entries and surveys
are somewhat longer (up to 10,000 words). Payment is at a rate
of about $50/=FA35 per 1000 words. If you are interested in the
possibility of contributing to this volume, I would be happy to
send you the complete list of entries, some sample articles, and
a guide for contributors. Please send your e-mail address,
postal address, and an indication of your areas of interest to:
