The full Senate Appropriations Committee voted unanimously
Friday to give $99m for NEH and NEA, same as the House. An
attempt to add $15 million to funding for humanities,
approved earlier in the week by a subcommittee, was reversed
by the full committee. The endowments for the arts and
humanities each will each be funded at $99 million, in
fiscal 1996 [which begins Oct 1, 1995], a 40% cut from this
year's spending. Since House and Senate have agreed on the
$99 million level, it appears to be final.
