fill one full-time, joint position at the Assistant Professor
rank beginning in the 96/97 academic year. We invite

2) Position: Archaeology and Anthropology

DEPARTMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY

PROFESSOR OF ARCHAEOLOGY (LEVEL E1)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates with a
distinguished record of research and publication for appointment to the
position of Professor of Archaeology in the Department of Archaeology and
Anthropology in the Faculties.

The University is seeking a scholar of international standing, with an
active research program and a good teaching record in Archaeology, who will
provide academic leadership. Regional and topical specialisations are open,
but the successful candidate will be expected to engage in and foster
development in existing focal areas of student and staff research and to
maintain the department's strength in the archaeology of Australia and its
region.

Teaching and research in Archaeology within the Department have been
actively pursued since 1970, mainly focusing on the prehistory of Australia
and its immediate region. Current staff and graduate students undertake
research in Australia, East and Southeast Asia, Oceania and South America.
The Department offers a broad range of undergraduate courses on regional,
theoretical and practical aspects of Archaeology. Undergraduate Archaeology
is taught to honours level and a range of postgraduate degrees are offered
to PhD level, with a large postgraduate student enrolment from a wide range
of international backgrounds. The Department is committed to the highest
level of training for its students and to maintaining a position in the
forefront of research and teaching in Archaeology.

The Department is multi-streamed and currently has a full-time staff of
five archaeologists, eight social/cultural anthropologists and two
biological anthropologists

Candidates must have a commitment to, and demonstrated excellence in,
teaching. Administrative aptitude and willingness is important as the
appointee will be expected to serve substantial terms as Head of Department
on a rotating basis with the Professor of Anthropology.

4) Position: One year ESRC Research Fellow
Institution: University of Warwick

1 October 1995- I October 1996

The research fellow will work in association with Dr Maxine Berg on
an ESRC-funded project, 'New Consumer Industries and the Market in
Eighteenth-century England', a study of new semi-luxury and 'decent'
commodities and their consumers. This is a one-year, full-time post
at a salary on the RAIA scale up to a maximum of point 6 on the scale
(=A314,317-=A315,986).

Candidates sought should have a history degree and substantial
post-graduate experience. A background on eighteenth-century
historical records and on basic computer data bases is a further
advantage.

company, seeks a Database Coordinator for its Housing and
Community Services Division.

Responsibilities include maintaining and expanding an
online bibliographic database of research including
