The University of Edinburgh hopes to advertise shortly for a
Temporary Lecturer in Canadian Studies for the period 1 January to 31
May 1996.

The person appointed will contribute to teaching in Canadian Studies
courses. It is envisaged that the temporary appointment will be made
possible by the University of Edinburgh, to cover a three-month term

The person appointed should have a PhD in an appropriate discipline,

includes study of regional, social, cultural and some historical
topics in the shaping of the country. The person appointed will be
expected to have a broad awareness of contemporary Canadian issues,
both political and cultural, and will be allocated responsibility for
teaching topics from the course. In Canadian Studies 2, a seminar-

Centre of Canadian Studies and its role within the the University of
Edinburgh, to contribute to an appropriate research seminar within

of events, including the annual conference on Boundaries: The
Canadian Experience, to be held on 3-5 May 1996. The person appointed
will also be expected to attend the annual conference of the British
Association for Canadian Studies in Exeter on 12-14 April 1996.

Ability to communicate in French may be considered an advantage.

Salary will be pro rata at the first point on the Lecturer "A" scale,
currently stlg15154 per annum.

While the above constitutes a description of the proposed post and
its responsibilities, as envisaged in July 1995, it should not be
regarded as forming any part of a future contract of employment.

Intending applicants from outside the European Union are advised to
check on their eligibility to work in the United Kingdom. No
guarantee can be given of a work permit for candidates from outside
the EU. Intending applicants are asked to indicate whether they are
eligible for employment.

Expressions of interest or suggestions of possible candidates are
invited and should be directed either to Dr Ged Martin, Director of
the Centre, or to Dr Colin M Coates, Lecturer in Canadian Studies, at
the Centre of Canadian Studies, University of Edinburgh, 21 George
Square Edinburgh EH8 9LD, Scotland (fax [44] [0] 131 662 1118).
