JOURNAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Further to a message put out last year, we are now on the
verge of launching a new quarterly magazine of the Middle Ages
entitled MEDIEVAL LIFE. This has been put together with the support
of the Centre for Medieval Studies, University of York (UK). This a
research-based but non-specialist periodical aimed at a wide audience.

The concept includes the following:-
1. coverage of the period between 500 and 1500 AD;
2. a multi-disciplinary approach;
3. using image as well as text as a means of communication;
4. wide-ranging both in the area and the topics covered;
5. allowing for an inter-relationship between articles in the
same issue and from issue to issue;
6. encouraging the study of all aspects of the Middle Ages
and a continuing debate in our pages.

Topics treated in the first issue:-
the re-creation of medieval interiors (part I)
new methods of studying post-Roman Britain
the symbolism of alcohol for the Anglo-Saxons
the Anglo-Saxon understanding of Hell
new light on Canterbury Cathedral from the excavation of 1993
the unpicking of an ordinary parish church
medieval versions of Aesop's Fables
social attitudes: a 15th C window explained
