The First SocInfo International Conference
on Technology and Education in the Social Sciences
(TESS)

5-7th September 1995
University of Stirling

2nd CALL FOR PAPERS AND FIRST CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

SocInfo, the Computers in Teaching Initiative Centre for Sociology and the
Policy Sciences will be hosting its first International Conference on
Technology in Education in the Social Sciences (TESS) on 5-7th September,
1995, at the University of Stirling.

Social science academics using the new technologies for teaching and/or
researchare strongly encouraged to participate in this event. This is a
unique chance
for academics interested in any aspect of the new technologies in the social
sciences, to network. The conference themes are designed to encourage as
wide a range of proposals from social scientists for papers, workshops and
poster
displays. We particularly encourage proposals relating to issues on the use of
technology in the teaching and or the research process in the following areas:

* Development

* Implementation

* Assessment

* Impact

These four conference themes were chosen as they highlight each step in the
process of using technology effectively in the teaching and learning
environmentThis conference is targeted at individuals in higher and further
education,
social and political researchers and professional trainers in commerce and
industry.

ABSTRACTS

Presenters should specify in their abstracts is their input is geared towards
introductory, intermediate or expert audiences. All abstracts will be refereed
anonoymously and should be submitted in the following format by FRIDAY MARCH
24TH 1995:

Title.....................................................................

A short description of the subject area which must include a summary of the
main points of the paper. Authors must also identify a number of key words
arising from their abstrac as this will assist us in placing the paper in
the appropriate stream. The absolute maximum number of words for the abstract
(including the title) must be no more than 300. In addition, on a separate
sheet of A4, authors should give their full name and contact details, including
telephone, fax and e-mail addresses.

As well as proposals for formal papers, we are also interested in proposals
for a variety of other forms of presentation - workshops, poster displays,
round tables, etc. If you require any equipment, please state. Please send
your abstract, and your cover sheet, by Friday 24th March 1995 to:
