Obviously David Zincavage's treatise on Republican principles, etc.
is a satire--and I commend him since in my experience Democrats, while
they throw good parties (at least in Texas) are rather a sober-sided
Puritanical bunch-- Truly, the NEH and the NEA give wonderful grants--
but with my connections, I often think I might as well spend my time
looking for spare change to buy lottery tickets as prepare the
extensive documentation required--only to have my proposal rejected
by someone who clearly is looking for some excuse to reject it since
there are already so many people pushing next to me at the trough.

Personally, I think it's time we in the "arts" started giving more
of our own money to fund research closer to home. Let's institute
faculty lotteries and give the lucky winner a research grant--

Sorry to clutter up your bandwidth, but since I've gotten about
eight posts about this in the past two days and I"m not even on
this list I thought maybe I'd just say what I thought. At least--
this is what I think today.:-)
