Moderator's note: briefly to introduce myself again and to suggest one or two
tips.

You will have received a message from Richard informing you all that I shall be
moderating the list for the next week or so. I do hope that all goes well, but
could I remind you of one or two small matters?

There will be a difference of 5 to 8 hours between those in N. America and me,
so there may be some delay in posting some messages to the list, especially
those originally sent late in my day (Greenwich Mean Time). I apologise for
this in advance.

Secondly, could I remind you that it is always helpful if you do put a subject
header and, when there is a thread, maintain consistency in the header _unless_
the discussion changes direction substantially.

Thirdly, it is equally helpful if you subscribe your message at the foot, after
your 'friendly' name, with your full name and full e-mail address. If you have
a signature file, please remember that it is helpful to keep it fairly short
for the list, as some members of the list are using commercial providers and do
not want their e-mail folders overburdened. Could we please extend this
courtesy to them?

Finally and relatedly, but specifically for members of the list in the U.K.,
could you please get into the habit of using a consistent e-mail address. In
the U.K., we have the option of using a long or a short TCP/IP address (for
example, I am either pot@leicester.ac.uk or pot@le.ac.uk). Please use only the
form with which you first subscribed to the list. This is _very_ important
when sending some commands to the listserver (set nomail, set mail, delete or
whatever).

I'm sorry to have used up so much of your time. All moderators of the list
wish listmembers a very prosperous and happy 1995.

Dave Postles.
