ANGLO-SAXON YORKSHIRE

A one-day conference in York - Saturday 24 June 1995

The Archaeology Society at the University of York would like to announce
the above conference, to be held in the Tempest Anderson Hall, Museum
Gardens, York.

The following speakers have been arranged:

* Philip Rahtz - Anglo-Saxon Yorkshire: some problems

* Sam Lucy - From "Roman" to "Saxon": Reassessing the Migration Period

* Kevin Leahy - The Productive Site Phenomenon

* Chris Loveluck - Production, exchange and society in south-eastern
Northumbria during the seventh and early eighth centuries

* Nick Higham - King Edwin of Deira: Literature, rhetoric and the reality
of power in early England

* Jim Lang - York and the Continent: The Evidence of the Monuments

* Julian Richards - Anglian settlement shift in the Yorkshire Wolds

* Dominic Powlesland - The evidence for static development at West Heslerton

The presentation of papers will be arranged into sessions which group
together broadly complementary or contrasting topics. Time will be
allocated for the discussion of issues raised.

The conference fee is a bargain 6 pounds (or 4 pounds for the unwaged)
which includes refreshments. Lunch will not be provided but there are
many excellent eating places in this fine city of ours.
