EUROPE. Asst. Prof., tenure track, beginning Aug. 15, 1995. Ph.D.
required. Specialization in Modern European History, preferably in
area other than British. Political Science as secondary field, or
interdisciplinary competence in another liberal arts area desirable.
Teaching load twelve hours per semester. Teaching responsibilities
include general education core courses in Western Civilization and
advanced courses in specialty. Evidence of successful teaching
experience and strong publication potential required. Salary competitive.

History: Early Modern Europe. The University of Utah invites
applications for a one-year, visiting assistant professorship
in continental Early Modern European history (14th to 17th
century) beginning in September, 1995. Teaching
responsibilities include upper level courses in The
Renaissance, The Reformation, and area of specialization;
Western Civilization (Ancient to Modern); and general
education. Ph.D. required. Evidence of successful teaching

8) Position: HISTORY OF EDUCATION
Institution: Florida State University
Location: Florida

The Department of Educational Foundations and Policy Studies in the
College of Education at Florida State University is searching for an
Assistant Professor (Tenure earning) of History of Education. The person
who takes this position will devote considerable energy to the
University's undergraduate teacher education programs, especially the
social foundations of education course. He or she will also offer
graduate courses and advise doctoral students in History of Education.
Research interests should center in the history of American Education,
but interest in educational policy and the history of education in
foreign countries would strengthen the candidacy. Minimum qualifications
for the position include an earned doctorate, demonstrated scholarly and
practical interest in the development of public schools, and interest in
working with colleagues in a multidisciplinary setting. Applications will
close on February 23, 1995; completed application packages will include
a letter documenting interest and qualifications; a current vita; and

contacted. The position will begin no later than August 1995.

14) Position: History of Science
Institution: The Johns Hopkins University
Location: Maryland

History of Science: Visiting Assistant Professor for
1995-1996, preference for candidates who can teach
undergraduate courses in the history of early modern science
and technology, and whose research and teaching interests
complement those of current faculty. Participation expected in
an active undergraduate and graduate program. Teaching load is
two courses per semester, including an undergraduate survey in
history of science to the 17th century, taught in the fall.

32) Position: Electronic Services/Reference Librarian
Institution: University of the South
Location: Alabama

The University of South Alabama seeks an individual to provide leadership
in the utilization of electronic resources for the University Library's
Reference Department. Duties include the development, implementation,
maintenance, instruction and evaluation of electronic services, including
Internet, for faculty, staff, and students. This position reports to the
Head of Reference Services and participates in all the activities of the
Reference Department: staffing the reference desk (including some nights
and weekends), library instruction, collection development and online
searching.

Required qualifications are an ALA-accredited MLS and technical
experience with electronic reference services including: CD-ROMs,
microcomputer hardware, a variety of operating systems, library
applications, peripherals and Internet resources and tools. He or she
will demonstrate the ability to work with faculty, staff, and students in
a collaborative and productive manner, exhibiting initiative,
flexibility and humor, as well as a commitment to public service goals
and to the library profession.

Preferred qualifications include experience in academic reference and
knowledge of the OCLC/ILL system, WinAriel, SAVEIT, NOTIS, LEXIS, local
area networks and a variety of online systems.

USA is a state-funded, comprehensive university of approximately 12,000
students situated in historic Mobile, Alabama, a major metropolian area.
The area is ideal for the full variety of year-round recreational
activities and is located a short distance from the lovely Gulf Coast
beaches.

This is an academic, tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Librarian
