Here are the promised official details of the abovenamed prize:
The BRITISH COUNCIL PRIZE IN THE HUMANITIES of $1000 is awarded
annually for the best book published anywhere by a North American scholar
in any aspect of British studies dealing with the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries. The author must be an American or Canadian
citizen. Nominations may be made by the author or by the publisher of
the book nominated. A publisher may nominate more than one title each
year but should use discretion and not overburden the Prize Committee.
The 1995 competition covers books published in 1993 and 1994.
Separate copies of the letter of nomination and of the book nominated
should be sent by April 1, 1995 to each member of the Prize Committee.
