This is cross-posted from FICINO; please pass to interested
parties as you see fit.

My medievalist colleague and friend, Kevin Gustafson, and I are
assembling a panel for the SAMLA conference in early November
1995 in Atlanta. We would like to ask for queries, proposals,
abstracts, or most preferably, 15-minute papers. Our ad reads
as follows:

English Literary Translation Before 1800:
Genre, audience, the development of a literary medium, script
vs. print, translation and "transition," periodicity,
historicity, literacy, cultural appropriation, semiotics,
authorship, class, gender, and all other related topics
considered.

We seek audience-friendly, listenable talks that will generate
good discussion. Please reply to me via e-mail
(aec2b@virginia.edu), or by letter to me at the English
Department, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA 22903;
or to Kevin at the English Department, College of William and
Mary, Williamsburg, VA.

Thanks,

A. Coldiron
