A (thoroughly serious) research student has asked me to check if anyone
can help him track down a vaguely remembered reference which has suddenly
become important for him. He remembers reading somewhere that some
nineteenth century Lutheran missionaries could be married so long as they
did not sleep with their wives.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?
