Yes, having an account is a good idea rather than a $35 fee. And they may
even pay a very little interest. On the other hand, they are not totally
free as there is a five to ten pound fee on cashing the original check
that goes into the account which means that it makes sense to put money
in infrequently and in large amounts. Unless someone knows how to avoid
that charge. Speaking of such things, I was irritated to discover that
the William Morris Society of Canada is selling a book I should like and
suggests that one use a bank as the ad in the William Morris newsletter
states that non-Canadian currency is any form is "inacceptable."
Of course increasingly one can use credit cards which makes life simpler.
