How permanent are H-Net messages?

On H-TEACH recently, Andrew Bergerson has raised some
interesting questions regarding the permanence of H-TEACH and the
other H-Net lists.
Our plan at H-Net is to have all our logs "permanently"
available on-line. (There are complications because we moved
most of our lists from U of Illinois-Chicago to Michigan State
earlier this year, and some of the logs are still in Chicago.
Furthermore, we plan to change all the addresses again in 1996 in
order to use our own H-Net hardware instead of computer center
gear.)
All H-Net messages are logged, and grouped by weeks. A
subscriber can access the logs for H-TEACH for the second ("B")
week of November 1995 by sending this message to LISTSERV@msu.edu
GET H-TEACH LOG9511B
In a few minutes you will get all the messages sent out that
week. To find what logs (and other goodies) are out there, and
how many lines of text they contain, send this message:
INDEX H-TEACH

It is possible to easily search all the logs as well.
To retrieve all postings (between 15 Nov and 12 Dec) that mention
"Internet" send this message to LISTSERV@msu.edu
[the last line "PRINT" is optional; leave it out and you get just
a listing. Leave it in and you get the complete messages.
Capitalization doesn't matter, but the syntax has to be exact.]

//ListSrch JOB Echo=no
Database Search DD=Rules
//Rules DD *
Search INTERNET in H-teach from 15 Nov 95 to 12 Dec 95
index date.8 sender.30 subject.40 from
print

Our technology is evolving, and we hope to have some better
search engines in place next year, as we begin to use the WWW
more on H-Net. [If you don't yet have access to the World Wide
Web, it's time to ask your departmental guru or campus computer
center for help in getting access, either text only using the
LYNX browser, or full-color graphics-sound-&-video using
NETSCAPE.]
