An introductory workshop for academics and postgraduates who wish to use
relational databases to organise and analyse historical data.

o examining the structure of source material
o developing effective data models
o entering source material
o simple and complex data querying
o recoding and data transformation
o extracting the relevant information

o theoretical discussion of database development and management
o demonstrations
o exercises
o personal projects from source material to design

RDBMS software: MS Access, but the principles apply to all RDBMS.

Participants should bring their own sample data.

No prior knowledge of RDBMS is necessary, only the ability to use Windows.

Cost: L40 sterling (cheques payable to the University of Glasgow)
